The easiest way is by taxi from San Juan del Sur. Our favourite taxi drivers, who we use regularly at a discounted fare, will bring you to Playa Marsella from San Juan del Sur for $10 (USD). When talking to them just say, “Australianos, Pablo and Carlita’s casa en Playa Marsella.” They will bring you directly to the door for the "amigo price".
*Francisco is also available for transfers to and from the border, Managua, Granada and Rivas, etc.
The Casa Oro Hostel in San Juan del Sur has a beach shuttle to Playa Maderas for $3 (USD) per person, one way. You will need to let them know that you are going to Playa Marsella and jump off at the intersection (empalme) of Playa Maderas and Playa Marsella. Short walk of 400m to Playa Marsella - we are 150m along the beach.

The bus for this area is called the "Chocolata Bus” and it leaves opposite the Irish House in San Juan del Sur - mornings only - for C20.
Approx times are 10am and 1230pm. The bus travels along the Chocolata Road, which is the rural dirt road to Rivas, and can drop you at the intersection of Playa Majagual, Maderas and Marsella. Then it’s about a 2km walk to the beach.
Hiring a car to drive yourself around Nicaragua gives you your own time schedule and a go anywhere itinerary.
The road to Playa Marsella, Maderas and other beaches around San Juan del Sur are all dirt and some access roads, like Maderas, have steep hills. Any 4x4 vehicle will go everywhere; whereas a sedan will be limited to some beach tracks and dependent on road conditions during the rainy season.
